This two-phased Student Recreation Center addition knits together an existing WPA physical education building and an existing undersized student recreation building, while accommodating a planned Health and Human Performance Building on an extremely tight site.

The new addition leverages a significant pedestrian and bicycle circulation pathway, heavily utilized outdoor recreation fields and the infamous Hayward Track venue to enliven its east facade. A new free-zone entrance on the east connects pedestrians to the social hub of Main Street inside the building, where students traverse the building, shopping its many recreation and academic venues. From the free zone of Main Street, students are drawn through the great hall to the cardio and fitness spaces for unrestrained views to Eugene's east valley. With this new fitness space, a 3-court gymnasium, 2-story locker room, large natatorium, group exercise rooms, active meeting room suite and renovation of the existing facility, this design creates a dynamic expanded home for student wellness and physical education for the 22,000 students of the University of Oregon.   Designed in collaboration with Robertson Sherwood Architects PC
