The newly-constructed Bishop Gerber Science Center serves as the home to Newman University's chemistry, biology and physics programs. The facility includes five faculty and student research laboratories and state-of-the-art technology, offering students the chance to engage in hands-on research and learning, and further cementing the university's place as a leader in science and healthcare education.

Carefully integrated into the design strategy is a dimensional two-story-tall wooden double helix. Prominently positioned in the building's foyer and adjacent to a double-height glazed façade, this large-scale wooden icon is sculpted to appear as though it is spiraling or emerging from the wall. The result is a visually stunning experience and an impressive statement to building users and passersby alike. Complementing the iconic double helix in both subject and material is the DNA sequencing-inspired donor recognition wall that displays the names of the building's generous contributors. Various giving levels are represented through color and a waterfall effect created by engraved stained blocks. Extending into the classroom corridors on both the first and second floor are oversized dual-toned graphics, which alternate colors on each side of the hallway to reflect Newman University's academic colors. A science-focused image at every entrance serves as a wayfinding system, communicating the specific subject taught in each classroom. Each element of the graphics package reinforces Newman University's dedication to science and healthcare education. Working closely with the university to realize its vision for the space, the design team carefully integrated iconography that serves to elevate the learning experience and reflect NU's passionate commitment to educating the mind and inspiring the spirit.
