The “Women Build” podcast spoke to žžƵ senior partner Kelley Hoffman, NCIDQ on the importance of thoughtful design for senior living communities.

World Architecture News’ latest episode of discusses the importance of providing amenities that encourage interaction between residents and the critical role that client and resident feedback plays in designing senior living communities.

Kelley Hoffman shares insights from her 20-year career in the senior living space and how she’s learned to navigate and design for the sensitive, emotional journey clients and residents face.

“Senior living design is subtle but deliberate,” said Hoffman. “As all of us age, there are cognitive issues, mobility issues, hearing and sight issues that will develop. Each of the spaces and facilities we design has the correct considerations of what’s needed.”

Hoffman states that over the last decade, the focus has shifted in senior living communities to make the spaces as residential as possible. Residents are looking for a high quality of life and a high purpose in life. Many of these communities offer a continuum of care that can help with a broad range of ages and abilities of care.
